GREG AND EMILIE SOSTARIC lived with dark brown
cabinets, paneled ceiling, and a tired linoleum floor for two
years while figuring out how to remodel the kitchen in
their
1927
Cape Cod home in Ohio. With Emilie supplying
most of the design ideas and her dad and Greg
contributing most of the muscle, all the cabinets were
removed to make way for new plumbing wiring and
drywall. Greg gave the repainted cabinets a cottage look
by retrofitting them with beaded-board panels and fluted-
glass inserts. The open corner display cabinet is a
$10
closet organizer, one of many clever ideas that helped the
Sostarics—who welcomed twin girls soon after we
photographed this project—stick to a $
5,000
budget.
